Ask Dina Richardson

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

IS YOUR TRAINING SCHOOL LICENSED BY THE STATE?

Great question!
YES. We are licensed by The Louisiana Board Of Regents as a stand alone institute of permanent makeup.

DOES YOUR SCHOOL OFFER CPR TRAINING?

We provide our students with a link to find certified CPR trainers in their state. Many of our students travel from out of state to train with us. Many states do not except CPR training from other states. As a result of this, they need to be CPR trained in their state.

DO YOU TEACH STUDENTS FROM OUT OF STATE?

Yes. Many of our students travel from all over the United States to train with us. We provide a list of all local hotels for students to stay.

DO YOU OFFER ONLINE TRAINING?

No. Online certificates are not accepted by the state.

WHAT MAKES THE COST OF PERMANENT MAKEUP TRAINING VARY SO MUCH BETWEEN SCHOOLS?

Cost for permanent makeup training will depend on many factors:

– Is the training school licensed by the State Board Of Regents.

– Does the training school have international PMU certifications and how many.

– How much international experience does your instructor have. ( this allows students to see more advanced styles and techniques in PMU)

– Supplies and training material provided to students by the school.

– Number of techniques provided to students by the school.

– Number of hours students will get credit for during their training. This allows eligibility for students to join our national association immediately after training

– Class size. Usually smaller classes provides more individualized, one on one training to the students.

WHAT TYPE OF TRAINING DO YOU OFFER?

We offer full and complete hands on training in all PMU and microblading techniques. We have multiple training classes available. Please see our website for a complete list.

DO I NEED TO HAVE AN ESTHETICIAN LICENSE TO PRACTICE PERMANENT MAKEUP/MICROBLADING?

Great question! No, you don’t need to have an esthetician license to practice PMU/Microblading.

The Board of Cosmetology has nothing to do with Micropigmentation. Micropigmentation is strictly handled by the Department of Health. In addition having a Cosmetology license can only be beneficial in our industry.

WHAT LICENSE OR PERMIT DO I NEED TO HAVE TO PRACTICE PERMANENT MAKEUP/ MICROBLADING?

Commercial Body Art permit.
Permanent makeup artist/facility is required to be permitted and registered with the state. For a list of required documents and more information use our provided link for Louisiana Department Of Health. Out of state students – visit your local DOH website.

IS A LICENSED PMU SCHOOL REQUIRED TO TEACH STUDENT’S BLOODBORN PATHOGENS OR CPR?

The answer is NO.

In fact, many licensed and well known PMU schools, around the country, require students to already have a bloodborne pathogen certificate before they start their training. The Louisiana Board Regents does not require schools to provide bloodborne pathogen or CPR training.

At Brow Design by Dina, we want our student’s to concentrate on PMU only. There is a lot of information students have to absorb immediately and as a PMU school we do not want to take our student’s attention away from PMU training. This will only waste a day of training on something that the student can easily complete at home for $35. It is okay for a PMU school to teach this information, but just remember, you will be learning less PMU which is the whole reason why you are taking the training in the first place.

BLOODBORNE PATHOGEN. DO I NEED TO HAVE IT? WHERE DO I TAKE IT?

Bloodborne pathogen is one of the most important requirements of the state to practice PMU. Every artist is required to take an online course every year. It can be easily completed from the comfort of your own home. Use provided link below:

DOES YOUR MICROBLADING COURSE INCLUDE SHADING?

Our Master Microblading course includes manual shading.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MICROBLADING BROWS, POWDER BROWS OR OMBRÉ BROWS?

MICROBLADING is a form of tattooing, but is semi-permanent. It is a MANUAL METHOD of implanting pigment under the epidermis of the skin. It is done with a pulling or swiping motion of a manual pen and set of very fine blades to create one by one fine hairstrokes.

POWDER BROWS: This type of brows done by a digital device (tattoo machine). During this type of procedure, thousands of tiny little dots/pixels of pigment are inserted into the skin, gradually building up a color and defined shape. This technique has fantastically natural fading results.

OMBRE: The color, which is also applied with the digital device, gets inserted into the skin deeper in certain parts at the brow. The tail, at the end of the brow, is a lot darker, while slowly and gradually fading. It looks a lot more natural at the beginning of the brow. This gives brows a beautiful more defined makeup look. Since the brow will look very perfect, it is a good look for people who wear lot of makeup on a daily basis.

DO YOU ALSO TEACH POWDER BROWS OR OMBRE BROWS? AND WHAT IS THE NAME OF THAT COURSE?

Yes, we teach both of these techniques in our Master Brow course. More information about this course is available on our website.

DO YOU INCLUDE PMU MACHINES WITH TRAINING ON POWDER BROWS OR OMBRE BROWS?

Yes. Digital machine is included with your PMU training, plus 50 count needles comes with it. For more information in what supplies we include, visit each individual training course on our website.

I AM A LICENSED ESTHETICIAN AND WOULD LIKE TO BECOME A SEMI PERMANENT MAKEUP ARTIST. I CAN’T DECIDE IF I SHOULD CHOOSE MICROBLADING OR MACHINE METHOD PERMANENT MAKEUP… WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND?

Great question!
There are not a lot of places that can offer both. Microblading is a great semi permanent technique and very popular right now. If you don’t want to limit yourself and your clients, and want to offer more procedures, you will eventually want to get certified in both. Why? If you know how to operate machines, you know it all! You can always extend your services to a medical/cosmetic tattooing and offer your clients : scar camouflaging, scalp micropigmentation, areola, eyeliners, eye shadows, freckles/birthmarks, ombré brows, powder brows, cheek blush and so much more.

I AM OUT Of STATE STUDENT. DO YOU HAVE CLOSE BY HOTELS?

We provided our future students from out of state with four near by hotel links. All of them are located within 5 min drive from our office.

DO YOU OFFER PAYMENT PLANS?

No.

Dear future students!

We are happy to let you know we offer our students a complete, thorough, hands on, realistic training experience designed to allow our students immediate confidence with their own clients. Our “after graduation support” is the best anywhere! Our full line of PMU supplies will allow students to keep their own offices stocked with the best supplies available.

We get many students who take our training course after having already had a training course somewhere else. Unfortunately their story is all too common; the training was not thorough, the information was limited, students did not feel ready for their own clients, there was no after training support, no one to turn to for questions about client complications and students did not know where to go for future supplies.

We have made a special effort to eliminate all these potential problems and put our students on the road to immediate success. We also provide a full range of PMU supplies at unbelievable prices to make it even easier for our students to succeed.

We look forward to seeing all students in the future and providing them with the best training they will ever have.

Dina Richardson, Master PMU Artist and Instructor
